Prenatal Care FAQ's

  • What is prenatal care?

Prenatal care is defined as the medical care you receive during pregnancy, and it’s an essential part of a healthy pregnancy. It encompasses a wide range of services tailored to your specific set of needs. The providers at Alliance Obstetrics & Gynecology recognize that no two pregnancies are the same. Personalized care can make a world of difference in the life of an expectant mother, whether it’s her first or fourth pregnancy.

  • Why is prenatal care so important?

Prenatal care helps track both your health and pregnancy progression and your baby’s growth and well-being. Our providers perform tests to provide valuable information about this important time in your life. We offer screenings to help detect potential problems in the earliest stages and find solutions that keep you and your baby healthy from conception through delivery. In addition to providing health benefits, prenatal care gives you access to your physician's support and educational methods which are invaluable. If you have a high-risk pregnancy due to your age, multiple fetuses, a chronic disease (such as high blood pressure or diabetes), or a problem with your baby, our practice provides the support that allows your pregnancy to progress as smoothly as possible.

  • What does prenatal care consist of?

Prenatal care includes routine office visits during your entire pregnancy, blood work, ultrasounds, and fetal testing as needed. At the beginning of their pregnancy, our physicians provide patients with a schedule of these visits and what will be performed at each encounter to adequately prepare expectant mothers. Our office is also fully equipped with a laboratory, ultrasound, and fetal monitor making it easy and convenient for patients to have everything done in one place.

  • Will my doctor be at my delivery?

Dr. Worley and Dr. Silva not only provide care for you and your baby during pregnancy but during delivery as well. Our physicians perform all of their own deliveries. They do not share call with other physicians or practices so when your time comes, you know who will be there for you! Also, at our affiliated hospital, we have trusted OB Hospitalist colleagues who are present at all times for emergencies.

  • What if I am high risk?

Our physicians have experience in high risk pregnancies and complex deliveries and follow recommendations by the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists.  Ours is one of the only practices in the area that regularly perform vaginal birth after c-section (VBAC) deliveries. We also boasts the lowest c-section rate in the central Florida AdventHealth hospital system. Our physicians deliver twins vaginally (if the first one is head down) and also offer the option of an external cephalic version for singleton breech babies. This procedure attempts to turn the fetus back to a head-down position, which increases the chance that you can still have a vaginal birth. Dr. Worley and Dr. Silva are both skilled at operative (vacuum) deliveries as well which helps to minimize the need for a c-section. When a c-section is needed, however, their surgical technique is stellar and patients are left with small incisions that afford them faster recoveries.
